Voters Saturday approved the Northside ISD's  $648 million bond package, with the proposal sailing to victory with nearly two thirds of the votes cast.

The NISD mounted a major effort to win approval of the bond, which includes money for a new high school in the Kallison Ranch area of far west Bexar County, as well as hundreds of millions to improve existing schools.

Northside is one of the fastest growing ISD's in Texas, and the district said rapid growth fueled the need for additional buildings.

Some of the money approved Saturday will go toward adding security to some thirty elementary buildings, including 'security lobbies' at dozens of elementary schools.

The vote also will lead to increased property taxes in the Northside district.
