SM Air: Lucas Novak

Lucas Novak is President of San Marcos Air Conditioning, which he has managed since he and his father, Mike Novak, acquired the 27 year-old mechanical contracting and HVAC service company in September 2012. Texas Air Conditioning License Number: TACLA51419C

Before acquiring San Marcos Air, he served as Vice President of Energy Solutions for Novak Group LLC. Under his leadership, Novak Group was named the “2011 Going Green Commercial Contractor” award by the San Antonio Business Journal. Prior to joining Novak Group, Lucas worked with Schneider Electric, a large energy efficiency and performance contracting firm. It was there he received extensive training in project management of energy efficient retrofits for school districts, municipalities and universities. Prior to joining Schneider, Lucas worked with TAC. Lucas received his Bachelor of Administration from Baylor University.

Novak Group LLC, San Antonio, TX (Project Highlights from 2010 to 2012)

Keystone School, San Antonio, TX – Managed and performed the design and implementation of a $100,000 HVAC and Lighting DDC Control System throughout the multi-building campus. The initial project was followed by Guido Brothers Construction subcontracting Novak Group to design and install the DDC control system ($30,000 contract value) for the recently completed Science Creativity Center.

Trinity Church, San Antonio, TX – Installed an HVAC and Lighting DDC Control System along with implementing a lighting retrofit at its seven-building campus as part of an energy conservation project with a contract value of $67,470. The project has cut energy costs by $55,000 in less than 3 years, surpassing its initial savings projection of $35,378.

First Community Bank, Corpus Christi, TX – Implemented an HVAC and Lighting Control System and converted the existing Controlled Volume System to a Variable Air Volume System. For a contract value of $89,000, the bank has cut its energy bills by $23,031 since June 2011 – a 41.21% reduction in utilities.

First Community Bank, Alice, TX – Installed an HVAC and Lighting DDC Control System and converted the existing Controlled Volume System to a Variable Air Volume System. With a contract value of $119,508, the energy conversation project has cut the bank’s energy consumption by 23.34% for a cumulative savings of $31,683 since December 2011.

Schneider Electric Buildings Division, Carrollton, TX (2004 to 2010)

Lamar University, Beaumont, TX - Led efforts of a performance contract valued at $13.7 million dollars. Scope of Work included water fixture upgrade, lighting retrofit, air handler and mechanical equipment replacements, and complete HVAC/security control system. Organized and streamlined HVAC controls installation during normal university operations. Commissioned and configured HVAC controls. Trained and supported personnel during and after construction

Sheldon ISD, Houston, TX - Managed the installation and led a third party commissioning team of an $8.1 million dollar performance contract in a Houston area school district. Scope of work included district wide water fixture upgrades, complete HVAC control system, lighting retrofit, new 1600 ton central chilled water plant with two miles of underground piping.

Alexander City ISD, Alexander City, AL- Supervised the execution of a $1.3 million dollar performance contract in an Alabama school district. Scope of work included a complete HVAC control system, lighting retrofit, and new HVAC mechanical equipment (Chillers, Air Handlers). This translates to reducing energy costs by 27% district wide and with the administration building’s utility cost being reduced by over 50%.

Bay City ISD, Bay City, TX - Assisted in the development and led the execution of a 3.5 million dollar performance contract in a rural south Texas school district. Scope of work included rooftop air handler replacements, chiller replacements, boiler replacements, complete replacement of DDC control systems, water well installations, and lighting upgrades

Olton ISD, Olton, TX - $500,000 / Comanche ISD, Comanche, TX - $1.1 million

Kingsville ISD, Kingsville, TX - $3.5 million / Texarkana Bi-State Justice Center, Texarkana, TX – $3.0 million
