Police have filed a rare charge of murder against a motorist who killed a man and injured two other people in a drunk driving wreck on the west side in April, 1200 WOAI news reports.
Police Sergeant Javier Salazar says Juan Mendoza, 27, was driving drunk on April 13th when he slammed into another vehicle at Old Highway 90 and 36th Street.
Zuniga says the wreck killed Juan Sandoval, 33, and injured two of Sandoval’s passengers.
"Traffic investigators were able to develop information that slowed that the suspect in this case ran the red light at the intersection and was speeding, causing this crash," Salazar said.
"This suspect has two previous DWI's and this one made it three," he said. "That makes it a felony offense, and in the commission of a felony offense, when you kill somebody, that makes it murder."
